Do you have a favorite album? A favorite album you can listen to from front to back over and over again and never get tired of it? The CD (Do people still use CDs?) is probably all scratched up, or if you are fortunate enough to have Spotify or iTunes or a digital copy somewhere on your phone or mp3 player and you can hear your favorite album whenever you want. I will have to say, I am big music lover and very obviously a big hip hop lover. Not the dumb sh*t that passes for hip hop that’s out now, yea some of them are catchy but they aren’t saying a damn thing that’s constructive or even remotely relevant. Maybe i’m just old and and i’m getting stuck in my old ways. F**k it, i’m glad! I’m glad I was born in the 80’s and grew up in the 90’s and was able to listen to what most people say is the greatest, most influential hip hop albums of all time.
Everyone will always have their favorite track from this album, but I don’t think I can pick a favorite. I can honestly say that I will always listen to it all the way thru each time I play it. If i’m editing pictures, I have this playing. Sometimes when i’m out on a shoot, i’ll have this playing. Driving to work. At work. Cleaning my room. Whatever. Whenever I hear this, it definitely sets a mood for me. It inspires to keep pushing, keep that creativity, keep that motivation going to achieve great and amazing things. Its just something about hearing the very first lines, “Straight out the f**kin dungeons of rap, where fake n***as don’t make it back…I dont know how to start this…”, and then the beat kicks in….Just Raw and Grimy! (I did some research on that and from what I read, he really didn’t know how to start that song). But he went into the booth and did something amazing that made people listen and want to pay attention.
Do any of you agree/disagree? What other albums are out there that you feel are influential to you? Hip Hop or otherwise? Feel free to drop a line on what you think!
This album actually helped me out today, because I felt I needed a sort of pick me up…
I got so many rhymes, I don’t think I’m too sane
